Simply acne treatment aftercare: the first 72 hours (no peel)
By Simply Facials | August 13, 2026
One of our acne clients told us the next day their inflammation went down and they felt “deeply hydrated/cleansed.” To protect that kind of result, our biggest rule for the first 72 hours is simple: keep everything gentle. No scrubs, no strong actives, no picking, and no sweat sessions that leave your skin hot and salty.
Our Simply Acne Treatment (50 Min) - Without A Peel includes a deep double cleanse, gentle exfoliation, careful extractions, a soothing jelly mask, targeted serums, and cooling ice globes to help calm redness. That combo clears congestion, but it also leaves your skin a little more reactive than usual. This timeline keeps your barrier happy, especially with Thousand Oaks sun and heat in the mix.
0 to 24 hours: protect the extractions, avoid heat, keep it clean
Right after your acne facial, your skin usually feels clean and calm, but extraction sites can be a bit tender or pink. Think of today as “hands off and cool it down.”
Do this today: cleanse gently, moisturize, and wear mineral SPF if you’re stepping outside. Keep your face dry and clean, and let any little bumps from extractions settle on their own.
Tonight’s simple routine (fast, low downtime)
- Cleanse: mild, fragrance-free cleanser. Lukewarm water only.
- Moisturize: a calming, non-comedogenic moisturizer. No “tingly” products tonight.
- Skip: retinoids, exfoliating acids, benzoyl peroxide spot treatments, scrubs, cleansing brushes, and clay masks for now.
And for the first day, we generally recommend avoiding hot yoga, steam rooms, and long hot showers. Heat and sweat can sting freshly exfoliated skin and make redness hang around longer.
24 to 48 hours: the “don’t undo it” window (especially in Thousand Oaks)
This is when people feel better and want to go back to normal. It’s also when we see the most accidental irritation. Keep the same gentle routine and be extra careful with sun exposure.
Sun and sweat rules that actually matter
- Mineral SPF daily: even if you’re “just running out.” Thousand Oaks sun is strong, and post-facial skin can mark more easily.
- Avoid pools and hot tubs: chlorine and heat can irritate extraction sites.
- Keep workouts light: if you must exercise, choose low-sweat and rinse your face soon after with a gentle cleanser.
If you’re in Downtown Thousand Oaks near the Thousand Oaks Blvd retail corridor and you need a quick product pick-up or you’re unsure about something in your routine, swing by or reach out. A tiny tweak in this window can save you days of redness.
48 to 72 hours: when you can slowly restart actives (and when you shouldn’t)
By day three, most people are back to looking normal. Some dryness or a little flaking can happen, especially if you’re acne-prone and used to stronger products. Don’t panic and don’t “scrub it off.”
A good sign: skin feels clean and refreshed, but not stripped. That’s the sweet spot we aim for during your Simply Acne Treatment.
If you’re restarting acne actives
We generally recommend waiting the full 72 hours before you bring back retinoids or exfoliating acids. Start with one active, one night, then reassess. If your skin stings when you apply moisturizer, it’s telling you it’s not ready yet.
Busy parents and commuters across Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Newbury Park, Oak Park, Agoura Hills, Simi Valley usually do best with the boring routine for three days. It’s not fancy, but it’s why your results tend to last longer.
Safe product types after an acne facial (what we like you to stick to)
For aftercare for acne treatment, we keep it simple and non-irritating. In our studio, we spend a lot of time talking through products because mixing the wrong “acne fighters” is a fast way to get dry, inflamed skin that breaks out anyway.
For the first 72 hours, choose:
- Cleanser: gentle, fragrance-free, no exfoliating beads.
- Moisturizer: lightweight barrier support, non-comedogenic.
- SPF: mineral SPF (zinc oxide based is a common option) every morning.
If we recommended a home-care line for you, stick with that plan. One of our acne clients told us the products we recommended made a “noticeable difference, ” and consistency is usually the reason.
Post-extraction care: what’s normal, what’s not, and when to text us
A little redness, mild tenderness, or a tiny bump where a blackhead was removed can be normal right after. What shouldn’t happen is worsening pain, redness that keeps spreading, pus, or scabbing that looks angrier at 48 to 72 hours instead of calmer.
“She even texted me instructions on how to use them, which I really appreciate.”

Reach out if you’re unsure: send us a message if you’re seeing spreading redness, increasing swelling, pus, or scabbing that isn’t improving within 48 to 72 hours. We’d rather look at it early than have you guess.
And if you loved how clean and calm your skin felt after your Simply Acne Treatment, keep the momentum going. A lot of our acne clients come in on a consistent schedule, and we’ll help you space visits in a way that makes sense for your skin and your life in Thousand Oaks.
