One of our hydrodermabrasion clients told us the next day their inflammation went down and they felt “so deeply hydrated/cleansed, ” and the best way to protect that result is simple: for the first 24 to 48 hours, keep your skin cool, clean, and protected. That means no makeup, no hot water, no heavy sweating, and no direct sun. Stick to gentle cleansing, hydration, and SPF 30+ right away, especially in Thousand Oaks where the sun can sneak up on you even on “quick errands” days.
Your first 24 to 48 hours: the do’s and don’ts that keep pores calm
Quick rule: If it heats you up, scrubs you, or stings you, pause it for now.
For today and tomorrow, keep it boring on purpose
- Skip makeup for 24 hours (48 is even better if you’re reactive). Your pores were freshly cleared and you want them to stay that way.
- Avoid heat: no hot showers on your face, no saunas, no steam rooms, and keep your face out of direct shower spray.
- Hold off on sweaty workouts for 24 to 48 hours. Sweat, heat, and friction can stir up redness and congestion.
- Avoid direct sun. If you’re walking around The Oaks Mall or popping outside in Downtown Thousand Oaks, put on SPF first and reapply if you’re in and out of sunlight.
- No pools or hot tubs for 48 hours. Chlorine and heat can irritate freshly exfoliated skin.
What you should do instead
We generally recommend a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser, a hydrating serum, moisturizer, and broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning. Keep water lukewarm. Pat, don’t rub. And if your skin feels tight, don’t “dry it out.” Add hydration in layers.
Thousand Oaks summer heat and even wildfire smoke days can make skin feel extra irritated. On those weeks, skip outdoor workouts during peak heat or smoky conditions, and be extra consistent with SPF and hydration.
Days 3 to 7: how to keep your glow without “undoing” it
This is where people accidentally lose their results. Your skin usually looks smoother fast, and that can make you want to jump right back into scrubs, strong serums, or a full exfoliation night. Don’t rush it.
Real-life pattern we see: When someone’s dealing with breakouts or hormonal acne, they’re tempted to “go hard” on actives right away. Give your barrier a few days. One of our hydrodermabrasion clients noticed the very next day that inflammation calmed down, and that’s exactly what we’re protecting here.
Keep doing
- Gentle cleanse morning and night.
- Hydrating serum and moisturizer daily.
- SPF 30+ daily, even if you’re just driving between Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village.
Avoid until your skin feels fully calm
- Retinoids and prescription acne actives for 3 to 7 days (longer if you get easily irritated).
- AHA/BHA acids, exfoliating toners, scrubs, cleansing brushes, and at-home peels for 3 to 7 days.
- Picking at texture, flakes, or clogged spots. If something comes up, let us know and we’ll tell you the safest next step.
The simple routine that protects your $175 result
Our Simply Hydrodermabrasion (75 Min) uses the Zemits HydroDiamond to exfoliate with water-based flow and suction, then infuses hydrating serums. Aftercare is basically about not stripping out what we just put back in.
AM (first week): gentle cleanse, hydrating serum, moisturizer, SPF 30+.
If you’re outdoors in bright Thousand Oaks sun, reapply SPF after any extended outdoor time.
PM (first week): gentle cleanse, hydrating serum, moisturizer.
Keep it calm. If a product tingles or makes you pink, stop it and go back to basics for a couple nights.
If we talked about homecare in your appointment, follow that plan. A lot of our acne-treatment regulars notice the biggest changes when they stay consistent with what we recommend between visits.
Redness, sensitivity, breakouts: what’s normal and when we want you to reach out
Most people have little to no downtime with our no-peel hydrodermabrasion, but it’s still normal to see mild redness or feel a bit sensitive that day. Sensitive-skin clients often tell us they do great here, even without breakouts or adverse reactions, and that’s exactly why we’re strict about the first 48 hours.
“I never thought I’d be a guy who would do something like this but I’ve been three times now and every time it’s great she has hand of an angel the most peaceful place I’ve been in many years”
one of our regulars
Reach out to us if your redness, stinging, or peeling is still going strong past a week, or if anything feels unusually hot, swollen, or painful. If you’re ever concerned about an infection or a severe reaction, get medical care.
We’re right in the Downtown Thousand Oaks Blvd corridor, and we see plenty of clients driving in from Newbury Park, Oak Park, Agoura Hills, Simi Valley, and Westlake Village. If you’re commuting and prefer after-work appointments, plan your facial on a lighter-activity day so you’re not trying to squeeze in a run, a hot yoga class, and errands right after.
Want to keep that “clean and fresh” feeling going? Many regulars book monthly facials or packages, and we’ll help you pick the timing that makes sense for your skin and your schedule.
A quick 60-second checklist before you leave the parking lot
- SPF is on (or in your bag if it’s evening).
- No makeup tonight or tomorrow morning.
- Workout rescheduled for 24 to 48 hours.
- Retinol and acids paused for 3 to 7 days.
- Pools and hot tubs paused for 48 hours.
